The Prayer Shawl Ministry will be meeting in person in Fellowship Hall Thursdays at 10:00 a.m.
Do you like sharing your time and talents with the Lord?
Do you like being creative and using your hands?
Do you like learning new skills and serving others at the same time?
Do you like opportunities to fellowship, meditate and pray with others on a regular basis?
Then Prayer Shawl Ministry is an activity designed just for you. This unique ministry allows the faith community the opportunity to provide tangible evidence to those for whom we are praying. Volunteer knitters and crocheters meet on a regular basis to make shawls for those in need of healing, comfort, and other needs. As these yarn artists work on the shawls, they fellowship, meditate and pray to the rhythm of the yarn, hooks and knitting needles. Making these items teaches compassion and love of others and most importantly brings God’s grace, mercy, comfort, healing, love and peace to those who are in need.
If you are interested in participating in the Prayer Shawl Ministry of Grace Church, you are cordially invited to join the Prayer Shawl Ministry group on Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. Experience in the craft is not necessary, and any and all are invited. Both crocheters and knitters are welcome.
Those who are beginners or who have never crocheted, but want to learn, are especially invited to join us and learn the art. A skilled crocheter will be available to teach you. For those who are experienced, you, too, are encouraged to come and share your talents, help others learn the art, learn new stitches, techniques and patterns yourself, and participate in the prayer and fellowship. Each month we will have a different pattern beginning with easy, simple patterns and progressing to more advanced ones as individuals’ skills develop and improve. You may also use a pattern or design of your own choosing, if you don’t wish to do the pattern of the month. Note: If you don’t knit and are interested in that art, please talk with the group leader.
What You Need to Bring: a skein of yarn, preferably a worsted, regular weight, 4 strand acrylic yarn, a size G or H crochet hook, and scissors. Note: It is easier to work with lighter color yarns when you are first learning as it is easier to see the stitches. (If you are serious about the art, you may want to consider purchasing a set of hooks, sizes D thru K, as different textures and sizes of yarn and patterns require different size hooks.) Supplies are available at discount stores (e.g., Wal-Mart, Target), arts and crafts stores (e.g., Michaels, A. C. Moore, Hobby Lobby, Jo-Ann Fabrics), on-line (e.g., Amazon), and specialty sewing and yarn shops.
Hope to see you on Thursdays as we knit and crochet in service to our Lord and Savior.
